How Much is the Bite? was a response to the documentary Frida Kahlo & Tina Modotti by Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen, commissioned as part of the exhibition Coordenadas Móviles: Redes de colaboración entre mujeres en la cultura y el arte (1975-1985).
The narrative follows a young woman and her friend on a journey to Texas, where they source an endoscope to carry out a mysterious experiment. The film is located somewhere between fiction and documentation, where real scenarios were created to tell an imagined story.
These images reference motifs in Modotti and Kahlo's work: medical equipment, landscapes, industry, piercing stares, and faceless subjects. However, they are united by the film's constant, highlighting an omission in Mulvey and Wollen's documentary: the friendship between two women.
With music by Gabo Barranco.
